How do I get a marriage license?

MARRIAGE LICENSES ARE ISSUED BY APPOINTMENT ONLY.  Please call the Town Office at 763-4199 to make an appointment.  Both parties must be present.

An Intentions of Marriage form (see link below) must be completed IN BLACK INK or TYPED and filed, and then a marriage license can be issued immediately. There is no waiting period. A certified copy of a divorce decree or a death certificate is needed for those who have been previously married. BOTH parties must sign the actual license in the Town Clerk's presence before it can be issued. Maine residents must file in the municipality in which at least one of the parties reside. Non-residents of Maine can file their Intentions of Marriage in any municipal office. Both residents and non-residents, once a marriage license has been issued, may marry anywhere within the State of Maine.

The fee for a marriage license is $40 and the marriage license is good for 90 days.
